Hawk Vouchers
The Division of Student Life, Campus Safety, and the UI Parent and Family Council have teamed up with Undergraduate Student Government (USG) to continue their Uber subsidized ride pilot program into the fall 2024 semester.
The Hawkeye Late Night Vouchers pilot program is a late-night on-demand student transportation program in partnership with Uber, offering students Vouchers for discounted Uber rides. The goal of the program is to provide additional affordable late-night transportation options for students traveling near campus.
The program provides eligible students with up to two $5 Uber ride Vouchers for the fall semester. In response to feedback from students, the Vouchers are valid every day of the week between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. within the program's 3-mile designated service area.
Please Note
This initiative is scheduled to run through the end of the fall semester (Dec. 22, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.) or until all allocated funds have been used, whichever comes first. Students are strongly encouraged to claim and use their Vouchers in a timely manner while supplies last.
Students can sign up for additional Vouchers during the spring semester if the program continues.

FAQs
The late-night Voucher program at Iowa offers eligible students discounted rides inside the university-designated service area from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Each Voucher provides students with a $5 Uber Voucher good toward a ride, and the remaining cost will be paid by the student.
Fare prices may be impacted by distance, traffic, time of day, special events, or other factors. The $5 Uber Voucher can be applied towards the total cost of the ride.
The University of Iowa has not conducted criminal background checks on any of Uber’s employees, contractors, agents, or assigns. Neither Uber nor its employees, contractors, agents, or assigns are employed by the University of Iowa.
Uber recommends several actions you can take to help keep yourself safe, including:
- Request your ride inside. Minimize the time you’re standing outside by yourself with your phone in your hand. Instead, wait inside until the app shows your driver has arrived.
- Verify your ride. Make sure you’re getting into the right car with the right driver by matching the license plate, car make and model, and driver photo with what’s provided in your app. Uber trips can only be requested through the app, and you should never get in a car where the vehicle or driver identity doesn’t match the information in your app.
- Have the driver confirm your name. Ask the driver to confirm your name before you get in the car. You can ask, “Who are you here to pick up?”
- Be a back-seat driver. Sit in the back seat whenever possible, especially if you are riding alone. This helps ensure you can safely exit the vehicle to avoid moving traffic, and it gives you and your driver some personal space.
- Always wear your seatbelt. Seatbelts are the most effective way to save lives and reduce injuries related to car crashes.
- Share your trip details with friends or family. Click the “share trip status” button in your app to share your driver’s name, photo, license plate, and location with a friend or family member. They will receive a text or push notification that tracks your trip and ETA.
- Follow your intuition. Trust your instincts when requesting a ride. If you ever feel you’re in an unsafe situation, you can call 911 using the emergency button within the app, which provides you with your real-time location and trip details you can share with the dispatcher. If you feel unsafe, you can end the ride at any time. If you experience a safety issue on your rip, report it to Uber and local law enforcement immediately.
- Be kind and respectful. Respect your fellow passengers and the driver of the vehicle.
The program operates within a 3-mile radius from central campus. You can view the precise radius here.
