Registration is open for three virtual training opportunities this November
Tuesday, November 7, 2023

The National Weather Service (NWS) is offering a virtual winter weather edition of their storm spotter training on three dates during the month of November.

Real time reports are critical to aid the NWS in issuing warnings that save lives. Even as new technology allows the NWS to issue warnings with greater lead time, spotters serve as a critical link between radar indications of severe weather and what's happening on the ground.

The virtual trainings -- which will be offered Nov. 16, 21, and 29 -- are free and open to the public, but registration is required. You can learn more and register on the NWS Quad Cities website, here.

Classes include information on identifying storm features, effective positioning strategy, safety, and severe weather communication. While these courses are winter weather specific, the traditional spotter training will be held between late February and early April in 2024.
