Update (Tuesday, March 24, 2026): The Iowa City Police Department arrested a juvenile on charges of riot, reckless use of a firearm causing property damage, minor in possession of a dangerous weapon, and person ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon in connection with this incident.
This message includes information about a crime that was recently reported on or near the University of Iowa campus. The purpose of this email is to provide you with the information you need to stay safe and take any appropriate precautions.
In the interest of campus safety, we want everyone to be aware that Iowa City Police are investigating a report of a single gunshot fired near the 200 block of S. Clinton Street at approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday, March 8th. Though the initial investigation found no supporting evidence of a shooting, evidence of gunfire was discovered this morning (Tuesday, March 10).

The only person responsible for a crime is the perpetrator. Crime alerts are sent to UI students and employees in accordance with federal law requiring universities to disclose information about crime to help prevent similar crimes and to identify offenders.
