The Key Services unit is responsible for the security of all building doors, safes, vaults, files and locking devices, and grand master key systems through installation, maintenance and repair of a wide range of locking mechanisms and related hardware. This work includes:

  • Installation & repair of door closers and hardware
  • Key check out
  • Key orders (new and duplications)
  • Lock changes and repairs
  • Master-key system design
  • Door closers & hardware

Request Temporary Keys

Temporary key checkouts are available for a maximum of 30 days. You will be notified when the keys are ready to be picked up. We do not mail keys.

Key Management

Traka Key Cabinets provide an efficient and effective solution for decentralizing your facility or vehicle keys. Authorized staff gain automated card access to the keys they need each day.

The high-security key management system provides a full audit trail of who removed the key, when it was taken and when it was returned keeping your staff accountable at all times.

These boxes help support our campus wide goal to enhance security, efficiency and safety for the UI community.

How do I request a key?

Request Temporary Keys

Where do I pick up my keys?

Pick up your keys at Security Engineering Services, 806 University Capitol Centre (basement). We do not send keys in the mail. Only authorized staff may pick up keys.

How do I return keys?

Return keys in person before the expiration date to Security Engineering Services. Do not send keys in the mail.

Whom do I notify for lost, stolen, or unreturned keys?

Contact the Office of Campus Safety, 319-335-5022.

What should I do if I find keys or building access cards?

Please bring the key or access card to Security Engineering Services, 806 UCC.

Can I have a key duplicated?

Security Engineering Services only duplicates university keys with proper authorization. Facilities Management employees can turn in damaged keys for replacement with required requisition.

What do I do if my new key doesn't work?

Contact Security Engineering Services.

What do I do with obsolete keys?

Turn them into Security Engineering Services.

How do I request a lock change?

Make a request through the FM@YourService customer service portal.

Can a contractor request a key?

Not without proper authorization from the authority hiring the contractor's work.
